Medical Image Interpretation - The Collision between Humans and Data

This is a special session highlighting the SCAR 2003 theme of Information Explosion:  Embracing our Future and will feature exploration of the management of large data sets by the intelligence, space exploration and entertainment industries.  Medical imaging data has increased radically in both the size of the examination as well as the number of examinations.  This has resulted in display and analysis of increasingly greater amounts of image data by a radiologist each day.  This situation currently appears unbounded and portends disaster for the future.  The purpose of this session is to examine how other disciplines faced with similar challenges of large amounts of image data have dealt with these situations.
SCAR intends for this session to spark strategic thinking and debate regarding a shift in the current paradigm used for medical image interpretation. SCAR is prepared to champion the new TRIP Initiative and provide leadership to address and solve this dilemma.
To learn more about TRIP™ and the closing session read about it in the Winter 2003 issue of SCAR News

Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand the problems associated with human viewing of large image data sets.

2. Learn how other disciplines have solved  problems associated with large image data sets

3. Engage in new methods for the interpretation of large image data examination in Medical Imaging.
